An Early Childhood Development Specialist will support social and emotional education services and programs for children in the Forsyth Country Day School Preschool. The Specialist plans, models, and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum. The Specialist will provide feedback on appropriate interaction skills and teaching techniques for teachers, students, and parents. They should consistently uphold the school’s policies, mission, vision, and core values. The Early Childhood Development Specialist position is a 12 month part-time position and reports to the Director of Preschool.  

Responsibilities: 

• Works in collaboration with other Preschool teachers, assistants, directors, and other support staff to support positive teacher-child interactions and a classroom environment that promotes each child’s cognitive, social, and emotional growth 
• Directs a comprehensive social/emotional program for all students 
• Works in collaboration with teachers, assistants, and support staff to model teacher practices, strategies, and techniques to support children with challenging behaviors and other social emotional concerns
• Provides orientation, training, and monitoring of teaching staff to facilitate the integration of social emotional learning activities within the curriculum
• Provides families and teachers with access to additional resources and services, as needed
• Participates in the development of a program that encourages family engagement
• Provides small-group instructional modifications for students experiencing difficulty with standard classroom instruction
• Supports students who learn differently and provides intervention based on educational best practices supported by neuroscience research
• Works collaboratively with faculty, parents, public entities, and private contractors on behalf of students who require specialized services
• Provides shoulder to shoulder support to enable faculty to better meet special needs and to help ensure that curricular offerings are fully differentiated to meet those needs
• Makes specific recommendations to support the student in the classroom
• Provides advice to leadership team, faculty, and the parent community about learning support

Qualifications : 

• B.A. (M.A. preferred) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Special Education or related degree
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a related role 
• A strong knowledge base in the areas of Early Childhood Education, social emotional learning, and neurodiversity
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and families
• Positive attitude and flexible approach
