The Interim Instrumental Music Teacher provides basic fundamentals of instrumental music instruction for elementary and middle school students, keeping in mind the philosophy of the school which is to infuse a love of and exposure to arts education for each child. The music teacher works in collaboration with the performing arts department and may direct a school band or orchestra, organize performances and maintain classroom instruments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruct and/or co-teach one or more elementary and middle grades in the Instrumental music curriculum as designated by the department.
Employ a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom.
Prepare motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and student abilities.
Encourage an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them with a global perspective.
Demonstrate a willingness to learn, grow, and improve as a teacher.
Continue to update knowledge of the content area(s) taught.
Chaperone class trips, take on day-to-day duties such as lunch/carpool duties, and engage fully in events/experiences.
Advise a group of approximately 15 students and be the point of contact for students and parents.
Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field.
At least four years experience teaching elementary and middle school students (3-8).
Experience teaching band and orchestra in a school setting.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.

May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
