About the Department
The Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) is located at the University of Minnesota Crookston, and in operation since 1973. The primary purposes of ECDC is:
To provide the students majoring in Teacher Education at the University of Minnesota Crookston, an opportunity to observe and participate in a teacher-training laboratory.
To provide the University (students, staff, and faculty) and the Crookston community with an early childhood education and child care service that ensures a high quality program for young children and their families.
The responsibilities are:
Directs the operation of the teacher training early childhood development center including, but not limited to, the administration of the education programming, staff, and budget.
Set the ECDC policy and procedures that align with MN DHS requirements for licensed child care centers.
Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with families and members of the community.
Works collaboratively with faculty in the Early Childhood Education degree program to provide appropriate early childhood education laboratory experiences for students majoring in early childhood education. Collaboration and working together to ensure developmentally appropriate practices are modeled and implemented in the program.
Director is responsible for stepping into the classroom when staffing changes are required.
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and Family Science
Minimum of three years of Birth to Preschool classroom teaching experiences
Minimum of one year of administrative experiences
Knowledge of Minnesota Department of Human Services, Rule 3 Child Care regulations, and NAEYC standards
Shows evidence of developmentally appropriate practices
Delivers high quality care and early education
Demonstrates effective communication skills and cultural competency
Collaborates with Early Childhood faculty in providing appropriate lab experiences
Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and Family Science
Current teacher license in early childhood education (Birth to 3rd Grade)
Experience in supervising and mentoring student teacher
Teaching experience in child development and/or early childhood education
