The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences(PBSCI) within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 300 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for a Research Coordinator.
The Research Coordinator will manage the day-to-day operations of two related NIMH-funded research studies: one to develop a mobile health intervention to encourage help-seeking among young adults at risk for psychosis, and another supporting treatment facilitation among caregivers of young adults at risk. They will complete research interviews, oversee data collection, manage datasets and analyze data for academic publication. They will also interact with recruitment partners including mental health advocacy organizations and community mental health centers.
Employee will be expected to recruit research study participants using online ads as well as in collaboration with clinicians in community mental health centers, conduct clinical assessments with individuals at risk for serious mental illness online under the supervision of the project PI, develop and implement study protocols and procedures, and analyze data related to the study and manage complex study databases.
This position supports two NIMH grants within the mHealth for Mental Health program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The position also supports the early detection and intervention research program within the mHealth for Mental Health program in general as this program of research grows and develops.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Study Coordination - Coordination of two recently awarded and related National Institute of Mental Health projects: one which focuses on user-centered design, development, and testing of a mobile health intervention for young adults with early psychosis, and another similarly aiming to build and test a mobile health intervention for early psychosis caregivers. Leads and manages the agenda of co-investigator meetings managing each project. Maintains and tracks project progress through maintaining assessment schedules and project timelines. Interacts independently with research participants. Interaction with community mental health centers partnering in recruitment of individuals from the target population. Ensures the protection of human subjects in day-to-day study activities. Troubleshoots research protocols and techniques as needed. Researches literature and consults with other investigators within and outside of the institution to identify and resolve complex issues or problems.
Study Assessments and Data Collection - Monitors of data collection through use of REDCap data capture, Qualtrics, and other data collection software, and tracking progress of participants. Interviews participants (i.e. young adults at risk for psychosis and their caregivers) about their experiences in the mental health system and with digital technologies. Administers clinical interviews to participants who experience serious mental illness. Works directly with participants to trouble-shoot technical issues and provide technical support when needed. Designs and performs all activities related to the project using sophisticated research and data management techniques.
Study Management-In collaboration with the PI, prepares relevant portions of grant applications, ensures compliance of submission with sponsor requirements. Tracks and coordinates project progress by maintaining assessment schedules and project timelines. Assures deadlines are met, and notifying project partners of impending deadlines to assure compliance. Works to ensure that all Federal and funding agency guidelines and requirements are met. Communicates with the BRiTE Center Investigators as well as study sites and decentralized project staff as needed. Assists in preparation of findings for grant proposals, reports, publications and other research projects..
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor's degree in related field. One year experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:
•Experience working with digital health studies and/or people diagnosed with mental illness is desired, but not required
