The Chadwick Center provides child abuse medical services for San Diego, Imperial and southern Riverside counties, a region with over 3 million people. Child abuse pediatricians oversee a 24/7 response to acute child/adolescent sexual assault and provide continual telephone availability to the community to triage and manage medical intervention for maltreatment issues. There is a daily clinic for outpatient child abuse and neglect evaluations as well as medical second opinion cases with additional clinical child abuse oversight to children evaluated for burns at the Regional Burn Center at UCSD. The attending physicians also provide back up to the providers at the emergency County shelter for children in custody.
The division has a strong commitment to clinical care, teaching, multidisciplinary collaboration and scholarly pursuits. Division faculty play a major role in education for medical students, pediatric residents and fellows, and in planning for the annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment.
