The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education – Child Development Center at Ohio University is accepting resumes for part-time, temporary Instructor/ Early Childhood Substitute positions. These positions will last for a period less than 120 days.
Overview of Responsibilities: Teach infants, toddlers or preschoolers; Supervise and assess students; Plan age and individual appropriate curriculum for children in assigned classroom; Participate in field testing of innovative curriculum materials and teaching strategies. The Master Teacher has overall responsibility of the classroom in coordination with the co-Master Teacher and acts as a coordinator of activities and daily planning.
Duties: Plan and execute daily activities for children in cooperation with co-Master Teacher and professional interns; Assess each child's individual needs and consider those needs in planning classroom curriculum; Maintain assessment documentation for each child in the classroom to be updated quarterly; Supervise and coordinate activities of all other adults in the classroom, i.e. teachers, students, volunteers; Make final arrangements for all materials and equipment to be used in the program's activities after planning and consulting with his/her teaching staff; Represent classroom at staff meetings to share ideas, experiences, concerns and challenges; Participate with other staff members in Reggio Emelia study group; Work cooperatively with parents/guardians to establish consensus of the needs/abilities of their child and encourage communication with parents/guardians through regular parent/teacher classroom meetings, individual parent/teacher conferences, daily verbal conversations and through center-wide family activities.
We seek a candidate with a commitment in working effectively with children, families, students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; Experience working with and supervising young children from diverse backgrounds; Successful completion of FBI and BCII background checks and medical exam.
Experience supervising Professional Interns and lab students from diverse backgrounds; Experience with Reggio Emilia Philosophy.
