We invite applications for an experienced Movement and Games Teacher to join our innovative faculty. The Waldorf teaching philosophy engages the imagination with enlivening, fun-filled games that build and develop capacities for physical and inner growth through a wide range of movement and games, including after-school team sports and activities, school wide festivals, Pentathlon, and circus arts. A strong movement foundation based on cooperation rather than competition is our objective so that our students can experience camaraderie and joy in the activity.
Dedicated to excellence in teaching and with a demonstrable commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, our ideal candidate will develop professional and collaborative working relationships with colleagues, parents, and the wider community. The Movement and Games teacher will have a strong awareness of the Games and Movement program’s role within the whole education at the Waldorf School of Philadelphia, including exploring and developing content that supports our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals.
The successful candidate will possess positive and inclusive interpersonal skills, and will be dependable and patient with children. You will be able to effectively teach children of all abilities, cultivate effective classroom management and ensure the appropriate mood and tone for the developmental stage of each class. With a Bachelor of Arts degree and experience teaching movement/games/physical education, you may also have a background in or knowledge of Waldorf education. However, other movement training and experience are also valued. The successful candidate will be expected to deepen their understanding of child development based on the philosophy of Waldorf education through continued professional development, such as Circus Arts, Spatial Dynamics and/or Bothmer Gymnastics.
This is a full-time position. The Waldorf School of Philadelphia offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including healthcare, dental, and significant opportunities for professional development. If applicable, consideration will be given to providing relocation support.
The Waldorf School of Philadelphia is a modern, organic learning environment—based on Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy of education—in the heart of Germantown. Our mission is to create a vibrant learning community based on a deep understanding of the child, integrating the intellectual with the artistic and the practical with the beautiful. We provide a decidedly independent form of education that creates decidedly independent thinkers. Learning that inspires. Learning that endures. And learning that children will treasure forever.
