Rutgers Preparatory School seeks an experienced and creative teacher to fill a Middle School/High School Learning Specialist maternity leave/long-term substitute from approximately September 2021 through January 2022. The Learning Specialist is an advocate for and partner with students and their families, working to build self-advocacy skills and metacognitive strategies. The goal of the Learning Specialist is to support students in reaching their full potential.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with learning differences at the middle school/high school level and must be comfortable working with students in small groups and communicating with parents. The preferred candidate will be excited to work as part of a team to support students, and bring creative problem solving and student-centered teaching to the position.
This position requires candidates to work with Upper School and Middle School students as needed in one-on-one, small groups, or class settings to support individual learning needs and/or challenges, with a goal to develop skills such as self-advocacy, management, organization, motivation, working memory, flexibility and problem-solving. Additionally, candidates will work in partnership with parents, students, faculty, and administrators to interpret and understand psychoeducational testing and other relevant assessments to develop, monitor, and update Learning Profiles. This position requires coaching and supporting faculty to develop strategies to implement accommodations and support students. The position may also include coordinating with students, parents, and outside professionals to process standardized testing accommodation requests (College Board/ACT) as needed.

Required Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, Child Development, Psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university
Preferred qualifications: Graduate degree in Special Education or related field
