Patrick Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution committed to student success, lifelong learning, and enrichment of the quality of life in the region it serves. Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, PHCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.
Patrick Henry Community College is seeking a full time Education/Early Childhood faculty member. The successful candidate must be a professional committed to the mission of the comprehensive community college and capable of working with a diverse student population. The successful candidate will be dedicated to academic excellence and continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and will be able to thrive in a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The candidate must be willing to work at times and locations as needed. Start date is expected January 2022.
Responsibilities include to:
â¢ Provide excellent instruction in early childhood and education courses by designing and implementing effective teaching and learning practices
â¢ Serve as an active and connected academic advisor for students in early childhood and teacher education programs
â¢ Maintain office hours according to VCCS policy
â¢ Maintain records of student performance
â¢ Prepare and/or assist in the development of course materials including course syllabi, online material, textbook selections, course objectives, and assessment instruments
â¢ Participate in scheduled in-service activities
â¢ Maintain professional competencies by upgrading skills, attending professional meetings, seminars, and/or workshops, and working professionally with other faculty across campus
â¢ Serve on various college committees as assigned
â¢ Assist in the evaluation of early childhood and education courses and programs for efficacy and curricular relevance
â¢ Work closely and effectively with higher education partners
This is a 9-month faculty position.

Graduate degree in early childhood education, child development, family studies, or a related discipline with at least 18 graduate early childhood credits that clearly articulate birth to 8 years old instruction or content work. Experience teaching in or leading early learning programs or working in the early childhood education field. The successful candidate must possess a commitment to active and engaging teaching, the development and delivery of quality web-based courses, and serving the needs of a diverse student body. Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal and organizational skills required along with good recommendations.
