Drake University Head Start is seeking a professional candidate for a 9-month full-time Home Based Teacher position. This individual will ensure the development, implementation, and evaluation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum while conducting home visits with families.A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Edcuation with Early Childhood endorsement, Early Childhood Special Education, Child, Adult and Family Studies with a Child focus are required. Current Iowa Teaching License with Early Childhood or Unified endorsement preferred. A minimum of one year of early childhood experience required. Head Start experience preferred. Current Driver's License and ability to be insured by University's insurance carrier required.
Conduct initial and ongoing family home visits and socializations. Conduct instruction in the context of the home. Develop lesson plans that are inclusive of all curricular areas and that are adapted to meet the child's individual and school readiness needs.
Create and maintain accurate, confidential reports and records within applicable regulations and performance standards. Maintain children's files including all related forms. Complete and file all documents within established timelines.
Provide parents with the education, information and resources to help their child develop a positive self-concept and support child development with proper guidance techniques. Partner with families to develop and follow up on family driven goals.
Design, implement and evaluate developmentally and age appropriate curriculum which includes a variety of activities and allows for different modes of learning among children, especially those with special needs or "at risk status".
Monitor and document children's progress and evaluate appropriateness of curriculum to meet children's developmental needs.
Meet with parents, caregivers, and other agency personnel as appropriate of curriculum to meet children's developmental needs.
Serve as a resource and support person to families and staff and the community. Develop and maintain good communication while respecting confidentiality. Establish rapport and trust with parents, staff, volunteers and visitors. Provide appropriate social service information and community resource referrals to families.
Assist with development of family involvement programs and group socializations. Facilitate group socialization experiences as assigned. Participate in socialization mealtime activities by: assisting with preparing and serving food; eating with the children and the parents; and cleaning up after meals. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Continue professional growth by attending classes and workshops, reading new materials, and contributing resources to the program.
Monitor and education parent(s) with respect to their child's health status, including monitoring medical follow-up, physical health, dental health, mental health, and nutrition
