We are seeking a full-time Manager, Community Education (PreK-12th grade)
to join our Community Engagement Department at Rush University Medical Center!
The Rush Education & Career Hub (REACH) supports education from cradle to career by providing innovative, hands-on STEM learning to under-represented youth so they can reach their academic and professional potential; increasing postsecondary education and interest in health care and STEM careers. Leveraging the academic excellence and transformational principles of RUSH, we are developing a best-in-class, diverse talent pipeline for the healthcare workforce of the future.
The Manager, Community Education will:
Report to the Director, Community Health & Engagement and will coordinate the expansion of STEM / healthcare-focused instructional and outreach programming for Gr. PreK-12 as part of our cradle-to-career pipeline. Collaborate with team members on comprehensive high-school and postsecondary programs including MedSTEM, HOSA, and Career Launch Chicago. Lead the hiring, development and support of temporary staff and instructional vendor partners for robust MedSTEM academic enrichment and career exploration programs. Forge key relationships with new and existing stakeholders in school communities to build partnerships and enhance supports for the whole child. Develop educator professional development series to build capacity around industry-career focused learning; function as Instructional Leader. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Provide day-to-day leadership in the process of developing integrated strategic academic and operational plans for the Community Education Team and other projects with staff.
Lead and coordinate MedSTEM, our signature youth work-based learning program, including design and logistics of activities and events at Rush and other locations, which include summer programs, workshops, guest speakers, field trips, work-based learning, problem-based learning, and other immersive learning experiences.
Manage, plan, prepare and collaborate to provide culturally relevant instructional curriculum that meets the needs of a diverse community of students.
Develop partnerships with school leaders, educators, community members, Rush staff and faculty to support programming.
Lead development of high school educator externship focused on STEM/healthcare industry.
Periodically teach and/or lead staff for STEM-related instructional enrichment with students from grades PreK to 12 of various racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds; incorporate authentic assessments, team and interdisciplinary teaching, cooperative learning, and integrate technology in the classroom.
Encourage and support family and community engagement activities and meetings.
Develop and manage a team of 3 direct reports
Collaborate with team members to support school and community-based organizations with engagement experiences.
Support program research, data collection, grant submissions, proposals and reports for prospective funding and program evaluation.
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience as a certified teacher of science for middle and/or high school students
Leadership or coaching experience with adult educators.
Strong belief in a rigorous and relevant high school curriculum; experience with problem-based or project-based learning.
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills and strong planning and implementation skills, including problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, both independently, and as a member of a collaborative team.
Ability to work with multi-age grouping preferred
Strong but dignified classroom management skills.
Experience leading and designing professional development.
Strong working knowledge of formative assessment methodologies for adult learning and coaching protocols.
Strong interpersonal skills, communicating and collaborating within department and across organization
Willingness to learn and adapt in the midst of new and shifting program and priorities with a "can-do," solutions-oriented approach to learning and problem solving.
Willing to work some evenings and weekends
