The UCDS Infant/Toddler Education Program, an innovative Reggio-inspired program, is seeking a classroom teacher to join our collaborative teaching team.
Successful candidates will demonstrate an Image of the Teacher that reflects the belief that teachers are researchers, coaches, and mentors who learn and grow alongside students in the classroom. In our school you find teachers who lean in to children’s inspirations and ideas, documenting the process of learning through notes and pictures, studying children’s behaviors and interests, and considering each unique individual both as their independent self and as part of the classroom community.
Teachers use observations about children to design a dynamic and flexible classroom curriculum that reflects students’ wonderings, development, and relationships with each other and the world around them. Learning emerges from children's theories and ideas as they experiment, investigate, question and explore. The curriculum uses extended blocks of time for discovery, play and group projects that feed and inspire children's curiosity. Teachers understand the importance of offering children a diverse range of experiences, projects and materials and believe that skill development and meaningful learning emerges and evolves when grounded in relevant contexts.
Collegial relationships and a strong growth mindset are foundational to how our school functions. All Infant/Toddler Education Program teachers co-teach on a team of educators with designated group and individual planning times each week. During planning times teachers co-construct curriculum by sharing ideas, incorporating multiple perspectives and building off of each other’s thinking to create a cohesive and shared plan that the group then implements together. Candidates must be able to work as part of a team, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and be inspired by children’s wonder and natural curiosity about the world around them.
