The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a Lower School reading specialist to serve as a leave replacement for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with elementary school students and an eagerness to collaborate with others. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate a strong interest in and understanding of child development and emerging literacy skills, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and take initiative. Finally, the candidate must be fluent in the use of technology and well versed in classroom management techniques and a variety of assessment methods.
Master’s degree with a specialization in reading required.
Minimum of five years’ experience in teaching reading.
Orton-Gillingham or similar multi-sensory training is strongly preferred.
Ability to uncover phonemic processing issues and provide supplemental instruction as needed.
Strong communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) skills and leadership qualities.
Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong attention to detail, as well as follow-up and follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ease in effectively prioritizing multiple competing tasks and demands.

Teach small group reading classes in Kindergarten through third grade.
Observe, assess and maintain records of student progress in reading.
Administer and coordinate individual and grade-level reading assessments.
Analyze assessment data and make recommendations to teachers and families.
Collaborate as part of grade-level teams to continuously improve curriculum and instruction.
Support professional development and provide literacy coaching for Lower School teachers.
Use grade-level guidelines to assess and evaluate students throughout the year, maintaining records and writing progress reports accordingly.
