The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 200 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development. The Center for the Study of Health & Risk Behaviors in the Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has an opening for a Temporary, one year duration (50% FTE) Research Study Coordinator 1 to assist in grant-funded research activities. The employee will provide research support and work closely with faculty and staff supervisors and colleagues in the implementation of a study funded by the National Institutes of Health. The study involves human subjects and aims to examine influences on marijuana use and related consequences. Responsibilities: Managing data •Program web-based surveys •Work with team to create, update, and document measurement instruments and scoring systems •Manage access to and documentation of research datasets •Follow all project-related data procedures Managing personnel •Assist in recruiting and training undergraduate research assistants, work-study students, and/or student volunteers as appropriate •Coordinate work tasks with undergraduate research assistants, work-study students, and/or student volunteers as appropriate Interacting with research participants •Coordinate preparation and posting of recruitment and retention communications to participants •Communicate with participants via mailings, phone calling, and emails •Conduct subject payments with gift cards for participation •Conduct phone screenings to determine eligibility for the study, which may involve asking about or discussing sensitive topics (e.g., substance use) •Conduct virtual and/or in-person sessions •Oversee training protocols and participant recruitment Tracking research participants •Provide recruitment and retention updates to project team •Implement any new recruitment procedures as needed (e.g., recruitment ads on social media) •Ensure appropriate flow of participants through study procedures, ensuring no participants are missed (e.g., rescheduling missed appointments) •Update and maintain a database for tracking of study participants through study components, including retention for daily surveys (multiple surveys per day across participants) Other responsibilities •Prepare, review, and modify Human Subjects (IRB) forms •Prepare timely status reports and updates for Principal Investigators •Conduct literature reviews •Maintain adherence to study protocols •Summarize study results and prepare reports Minimum Qualifications: •Two years of college-level coursework in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.
