Stanford University Graduate School of Education seeks a full-time Research Coordinator to join the Educational Neuroscience Initiative to provide central support in organizing, conducting, and analyzing research led by the Primary Investigator in coordination with his lab of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows and in partnership with local schools and faculty from other Stanford departments (Psychology, Neuroscience).
The Educational Neuroscience Initiative is a basic and applied research effort that brings together elementary school education and neuroscience research on how the brain changes with learning. We bring cutting-edge tools in electrophysiology (EEG) and recent insights into brain plasticity and attention-driven changes in brain activity into meaningful interaction with foundational issues in education such as early academic development in reading, mathematics, and executive function. This includes both local work with partner schools that map out changing brain responses as children learn, as well as national and international collaborations with networks of researchers pursuing similar goals.
What You'll Do:
This role will provide a range of research support to the lab and the Principal Investigator. Primary responsibilities include: directly conduct and coordinate data collection efforts for child and adult research protocols, develop lab protocols for data sharing, storage, and analysis, develop new experimental materials for children including task paradigms and stimulus sets, maintain detailed and organized research records, submit and renew materials to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and train other new researchers in lab procedures. This position will report directly to the Principal Investigator leading this important initiative.
Core duties will include (but are not limited to):
Plan and perform research tasks requiring initiative and judgment by applying basic knowledge and understanding of scientific theory when precedents do not provide specific guidance.
General instruction provided by the supervisor as needed. May interpret study results in collaboration with supervisor or PI.
Participate in the development and administration of survey instruments and rating scales requiring judgment in applying non-routine procedures. Analyze and summarize results for review with supervisor. Audit the accuracy and validity of data
Review and audit case report forms for completion and accuracy with source documents, and ensure compliance with research protocols.
Identify, select, extract and summarize data and structured information. Present summary of findings to supervisor.
Conduct literature searches, and write literature summaries and manuscripts, requiring preliminary judgments after the supervisor outlines conceptual approach.
Build and organize data as requested by principal investigator or supervisor; use common statistical programs requiring the application of job control language in generating and organizing data.
Adapt new, nonstandard methods outlined by supervisor in designing and evaluating phases of research projects, (i.e., educational materials, questionnaires, strategies for recruitment, data quality control procedures and processes). May follow up with Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure renewals are approved and completed, seeking guidance where necessary.
Assist with development, communication and design of research findings to internal and external audiences, which may include web updates, social media, and/or white papers, for use in recruitment, educational, or awareness of programs, with guidance from supervisor.
Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities.
May orient and train new staff or students.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field, or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Child Development, Biology, or other relevant field and 1-2 years research experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General understanding of scientific theory and methods, typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.
General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability and desire to work with human study participants, particularly children.
Comprehensive understanding of scientific theory and methods
Experience using electroencephalography (EEG) tests on human subjects. Experience specifically with children a plus.
Experience with statistical analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, Matlab).
Experience with data management software (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics).
Experience with basic audio and video editing software (e.g., Audacity, QuickTime player).
