Specific Title: Division Chief, Pediatric Critical Care Location: IU School of Medicine Department: IUSM - Pediatrics Campus: IU School of Medicine Indianapolis Position Announcement: Indiana University School of Medicine is announcing the search for a Division Chief of Pediatric Critical Care within the Department of Pediatrics. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a visionary leader, who will lead the division in national and international prominence as a clinical, educational and research center of excellence in pediatric critical care medicine. IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country with more than 20,000 living alumni and 3,000 learners. Its diverse faculty is made up of 2,700 full-time members and 3,200 volunteer faculty who are responsible for training medical, graduate and postgraduate students. IU School of Medicine is the only allopathic medical school in Indiana. In addition to the flagship campus in Indianapolis, the school has eight campuses in communities that range from urban hubs like Gary to rural communities such as Terre Haute, allowing learners to experience medicine in all settings. The Department of Pediatrics at IUSM/Riley Hospital for Children is a 360-member faculty that is consistently within the top 10 pediatric departments in NIH funded research in the United States (Peds 2019 #7 among all medical schools and #3 among all public institutions) and has 18 Fellowship programs. Riley Hospital's pediatric sub-specialty division are nationally ranked in 10 of the 10 categories evaluated by the US News and World Report for 2019-2020. The Department of Pediatrics is ranked 7th in NIH funding for pediatric academic health centers. The Children's Clinical Research Center (CCRC), located at Riley Hospital for Children, is one of the largest pediatric research facilities in the country. The CCRC is the primary site for pediatric clinical research done within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine and within the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI). The Herman B Well Center for Pediatric Research, primary facility for basic science research, seeks to rapidly move basic research findings into the clinical setting. It is connected to Riley Hospital by a sky-bridge. There is also a well-functioning biobank, six T32 fellow training grants and one K12s that support research in the Department. Our nationally recognized Division of Children's Health Research is available for collaboration, mentoring and research. The Department also has research relationships with the Regenstrief Institute in Health Informatics. The Pediatric Critical Care Division is a dynamic and diverse group with a commitment to academic development and research while continuing the mission of delivering world class health care to our pediatric patients. At Riley Hospital for Children we have a state-of-the-art 42-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a 18-bed Cardiovascular Critical Care Unit (CVICU), which provides care to critically ill infants, children, adolescents and young adults with certain conditions (cancer, congenital heart disease) from throughout the entire state of Indiana as well as the surrounding region. All pediatric medical subspecialties are represented with an active and high volume pediatric surgical sub-specialty presence including pediatric general surgery, trauma, cardiovascular surgery, solid organ transplantation (including cardiac, liver, renal and multi-visceral), otolaryngology, neurosurgery, and orthopedics. In addition, the pediatric ICU physicians manage a busy procedural sedation program and serve as medical command for a large statewide transport team. The PICU has approximately 2500 admissions per year and the CVICU admits over 500 patients annually. Riley Hospital for Children and the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine are active participants in the Virtual PICU, Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC⁴), and Society for Pediatric Sedation, and the Solutions for Patient Safety. The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at Riley Hospital for Children and the contiguous IU School of Medicine offer a number of excellent opportunities to collaboratively perform research. The Pediatric ICU at Riley Hospital for Children is an active member of The Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI) Network and participates in multicenter clinical research trials in brain injury, lung injury and sepsis. The Division of Critical Care also founded and serves as the coordinator center for the Collaborative Research from the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society (CoRe-PCICS) Investigators. The Department of Pediatrics and College of Medicine are committed to supporting the development of young investigators.
