Good Shepherd Episcopal School seeks a collaborative individual to teach, enrich, and reinforce the Primer curriculum while caring for the whole child. The Associate Primer Teacher will work with the lead Primer teacher to plan, supervise, and implement the program for the early childhood class in accordance with the policies, curriculum, and philosophy of the school to treat each child with dignity and respect. The Associate Primer Teacher will provide not only for each child’s academic needs but also help develop social and emotional maturity. In addition, the Associate Primer Teacher will work with the lead Primer teacher to assess and monitor student progress, maintain an orderly classroom, and revise and update the curriculum as necessary. He or she will work with the lead Primer teacher to provide report cards with written comments, review student assessments, and implement individual strategies for learning, as well as send timely, proactive, and regular communications to parents.
The Associate Primer Teacher will attend all required meetings and public-relations events and participate on school committees and in extra-curricular activities, as required. He or she will uphold and support the mission of the Episcopal Church and the school, meet all teacher expectations and duties as outlined in the Employee Manual, and collaborate with colleagues while maintaining a positive team attitude.
The ideal candidate is a strong, dedicated professional with an astute understanding of child development and how young children learn. The preferred qualifications for the ideal candidate are as follows:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university, master’s degree preferred
Experience as a homeroom teacher in early childhood or elementary grades preferred
Strength in literacy and phonics instruction
Competency in technology
Experience in integrating curriculum and various assessment tools
Willingness to work in a collaborative, team environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to differentiate curriculum for students with varying learning styles
