Peoria Academy, an independent, coeducational, progressive PK-8 school founded in 2000 in Peoria Illinois, seeks a director of Early Childhood Education to begin July 1, 2021. Peoria Academy has entered into candidacy to become an International Baccalaureate World School and will be implementing the Primary Years Programme in PK-5 and the Middle Years Programme in grades 6-8. The Director of Early Childhood Education will serve as a teacher in PK and will provide leadership to colleagues and a vision for Peoria Academy’s Early Childhood program. The Director of Early Childhood Education will have the opportunity to be involved in strategic decision making during an exciting and dynamic time in Peoria Academy’s history, and to bring an entrepreneurial spirit to growing our Early Childhood program.

The Director of Early Childhood Education works in close collaboration with and reports to the Academic Dean and is responsible to ensure that the day-to-day operations of the program are running smoothly. The Director collaborates with and provides leadership and support for Peoria Academy’s early childhood faculty and staff, ensures that policies are carried out, and provides key oversight to important school functions. Duties include:
Provide day to day oversight of the operations of the program, in collaboration with the Head of School and Academic Dean
Support the Head of School and academic dean with evaluation and observation of early childhood teachers and staff
Supervise, hire, train, and place substitute teachers
Plan professional development
Coordinate assessment, attendance, and reporting
Education Material Inventory, Ordering, etc.
Work collaboratively with the Head of School, Academic Dean, Director of Finance and Human Resources, Advancement Associate, and Office Manager
Provide leadership in Peoria Academy’s transition to the IB programme and support colleagues in the transition
Any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Academic Dean
The ideal candidate will possess many of the following qualifications:
Experience teaching and serving as an administrator in an early childhood program
Knowledge of and experience with independent schools
Understanding of child development
Maturity, presence, and a sense of humor
A strong personal drive for excellence and a dedication to lifelong learning
An entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to engage in a process of ongoing learning and growth
