LS Dual Language Teacher (French w/Spanish)

The Lower School World Language curriculum emphasizes the nature of language and language learning, articulation and expression, confidence and oral proficiency, and the importance of cultural respect and understanding. The World Language Teacher in French and/or Spanish is responsible for the instruction, guidance, assessment and supervision of students in class as well as communication regarding student behavior and performance with parents or guardians, homeroom teachers, and administration. World Language instruction includes lessons and activities that are developmentally appropriate in guiding children from age 3 through grade 5 in the development of French and/or Spanish language and cultures. Students aged 3 through the end of grade 1 are provided a single trimester of each language offered in Lower School (French, Spanish, Chinese). During these years, the students strive to develop an understanding and use of oral language expressions, songs, and stories that expand practical vocabulary and pronunciation. Upon entering second grade, students request a specific language to immerse themselves in for the long term. Students are exposed to the written word in a variety of ways that remain developmentally appropriate for young students.
