Beginner Homeroom Teacher

BB&N is seeking a full-time Beginner Homeroom teacher. The Beginner Team consists of two classrooms of 16 children each with two lead teachers in each classroom. Beginners, an inquiry-based program, is designed to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of young children (4’s and 5’s) through an integrated approach that follows emerging ideas from the community of children as they construct knowledge and meaning from their local and expanding global communities. Core skill sets are embedded and practiced as the Beginner teaching team facilitates project-based learning in the indoor and outdoor classroom environments. Cognitive skills are heightened as teachers introduce provocations to deepen the thinking and problem-solving skills of the children.

The ideal candidate should have teaching experience in emergent, child-centered preschool/early childhood education. Significant knowledge of child development and a strong understanding of the facilitation and practice of emergent, negotiated early childhood curriculum is required. A candidate should have experience in daily observation and documentation in the classroom. A Master’s degree in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education is preferred. Since this is a co-teaching position, qualifications include experience with team teaching and the ability to collaborate, share classroom responsibilities, and be flexible in working with a co-teacher. Three years of lead classroom teaching experience required. Creativity, sense of humor, love of children, knowledge of child development, experience with emergent curriculum and inquiry-based learning and a reflective teaching practice are skill sets we are seeking for this position.
