Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School seeks a self-motivated, caring, experienced, and clinically licensed full-time counselor having a minimum of three years’ school experience to join our school family for the 2021-2022 School Year. The successful candidate thrives working with a globally diverse student body in a collaborative environment, commits to making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents through personal relationships, sets a positive tone, and treats students as individuals within the context of a broader community. The counselor works closely with the Lead Counselor, faculty, and administration within the Upper School and across divisions to coordinate best practices of wellbeing, social-emotional and academic student supports. The counselor also works in conjunction with the counseling team and the Dean of Students to provide advisory programming related to Social-Emotional Learning and other important mental health topics, and in conjunction with the Learning Support Services Coordinator to support students with mental health accommodations. Working directly with the Lead Counselor, the counselor provides ongoing support to specific students, short-term individual counseling, and referrals to outside therapeutic providers. Duties also include advising and contributions to a large extra-curricular program such as Athletics, Debate, or Robotics.

The successful candidate has a current clinical certification in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling and a strong background in child development, psychopathology, treatment, and referral practices. A demonstrated ability to manage at-risk or crisis situations, knowledge of current law and best practice. Strong candidates demonstrate commitment to the overall wellbeing of students, faculty, and staff; they promote best practices for reaching all students and have experience designing & disseminating professional learning opportunities. Effective communication, both verbally and in writing, and effective team building and facilitation skills are necessary. Cranbrook is a PK-12 school with a vibrant boarding component in grades 9-12, providing the opportunity to live and work on our architecturally famous 319-acre campus. Often living and working in our residence halls, faculty engage students and support their development as members of a shared community. Eagerness to live among students, and to engage them in the evenings and on the weekends as a part of an exciting residential program, is particularly significant for this position. The campus also hosts a Graduate Academy of Art, a Science Museum, and an Art Museum, which together comprise the Cranbrook Educational Community. The art and architecture that shape the campus are designed to complement the surrounding natural environment, making for a truly stunning campus. This position requires a master’s degree and current clinical professional license in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling preferred. A minimum of three years of experience working in high school preferred.
