Purpose: An ESD Art Teacher for Grades 1-4 is a passionate educator with comprehensive knowledge of child development who employs a variety of teaching tools and methodologies to engage children in artistic expression in a wide array of media and to lay down the building blocks of art history. As an effective member of the Lower School faculty, this individual is flexible and able to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues. He/she is committed to developing and modifying curriculum to meet the unique needs of every child. This teacher will be a lifelong learner who engages in professional development and collegial conversation leading to the development of effective teaching and learning practices.
Qualifications & Skills:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, cognition, or related field; Master’s Degree desired
3+ years teaching experience preferred
Ability to design a classroom environment that generates joyful learning
Experience creating hands-on art projects that are developmentally appropriate for children that allows exposure to and practice with a variety of media
Ability to bring art history to life and to introduce “mentor” artists as models for student work and with particular attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Patience, creativity, optimism, resilience and adaptability
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various school constituents
Technological proficiency expected and a demonstrated capacity to learn new technology as necessary (i.e. Google Apps, Schoology, iPads and Chromebooks)
