Job Title: Associate Teacher
Reports To: Head of School

SUMMARY International Children's Academy seeks an Elementary Teacher for 2020-2021 to foster students’ intellectual, social- emotional, and ethical growth. A full-time member of the faculty, this Teacher will work alongside a teachers committed to innovating their teaching practices and will report to the Head of School.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Along with the pedagogical team, plan, direct, and coordinate a dynamic, play-based learning environment that affirms and supports ICA’s mission and values

• Implement I.B. Curriculum, in connection with I.B. best practices and professional development.

• Facilitate the social, emotional, and academic growth of students

• Provide a hands-on, intentional, play-based style of learning; manage collaborative learning groups

• Actively participate in faculty culture committed to being at the leading edge of Preschool-Grade 6 education

• Develop best practice, and implement long- and short-range plans for differentiated instruction

• Provide timely communication with parents/guardians through calls, emails, regular newsletters, progress reports, and conferences

• Provide clear learning objectives for student, parent, and administrative utilization

• Develop and implement clear learning objectives and aligned student assessment methods that will consistently and continuously provide a basis for evaluating and reporting student progress

• Attend weekly faculty meetings

• Participate in professional development, especially I.B. Training

• Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position:

Have one of the following:

Twelve postsecondary semester units in either elementary education or early childhood education from an accredited college and six months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or similar program. The units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development; child, family and community; and program/curriculum. A current and valid Child Development Associate Teacher, Teacher, or Master Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

• A minimum of three years teaching experience in a Pre-K/TK/DK, K-6 or early childhood setting

• Background or experience with the International Baccalaureate Curriculum.

• Fifteen hours of health and safety training, if necessary, pursuant to Health and Safety code, Section 1596.866

• Expertise in student-centered, collaborative, and play-based teaching methodologies

• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a teaching team

• Excellent organizational, time management, and follow-through skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents in an evolving diverse, inclusive community

• Proven cultural competence in a diversity responsive community

• Desire for ongoing professional development, particularly as related to academic and cultural competencies as well as the International Baccalaureate Curriculum.

• High degree of professional behavior, including discretion, judgment, and integrity

• Passion for his/her desire to teach and to learn from young people

• Willingness to take risks and seize leadership opportunities as they arise

• Commitment to staying current with research on best practice

Normal hours for the position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Benefits include, but are not limited to: medical, dental, and vision. Competitive salary based on experience.
