Capitol Hill Day School is a progressive, coeducational day school in Washington DC, for approximately 225 students in Pre-Kindergarten-8th grade. At Capitol Hill Day School, learning is challenging, engaging, playful, and relevant to the real world. Students learn across subjects with an experiential curriculum that integrates not only academic subjects, but also the arts, physical education, service learning, and technology. Through an extensive field education program, students take part in experiences beyond the classroom related to topics of study. Teachers collaborate with each other in developing, planning, and implementing curriculum; school-wide, they create a spirit of camaraderie through their interactions with students, parents, and other members of the staff. Position Purpose: The Early Childhood and Elementary Head supervises two distinctive and innovative programs that are integral parts of the entire school. The Early Childhood and Elementary Head is a collaborative leader who is responsible for all curricular and non-curricular activities involving students, faculty, and parents in the early childhood and elementary grades. Reporting to the Head of School the Early Childhood and Elementary Head is an instructional leader with a background in and passion for progressive education and a strong commitment to the Capitol Hill Day School’s mission and philosophy of teaching and learning. To ensure a cohesive PK-8 program and a school-wide commitment to mission and philosophy, the Early Childhood and Elementary Head actively works with other school administrators.

Qualifications for the position: The Early Childhood and Elementary Head must have highly developed leadership, collaborative, and interpersonal skills, and must relate well with young children and adults.
