Friends Community School (FCS) is a progressive co-ed Quaker K-8 day school serving a diverse student body from the greater Washington, D.C. area. FCS seeks a Lower School (K-4) Art Teacher and Assistant Teacher for a maternity leave. The leave will begin in mid-February to mid-May. We seek an art educator who has experience teaching art projects and skills using a variety of mediums to students between the ages of 5-10. The ideal candidate is organized, engaging, and displays respect and understanding of child development.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching remote art lessons to students in grades K-4
Serving as an assistant teacher to a Lower School homeroom
Supervising Lower School lunch period
Posting weekly instructional videos for students in grades K-4 as necessary
Supervising Lower School classes as needed
Communicating regularly with students’ parents as necessary
Collaborating with other co-curricular teachers and homeroom teachers for lesson and curriculum planning
Assessing students work regularly
Qualifications and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in visual arts
Previous experience teaching art to elementary and middle school students
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Experience working with technology such as Google Meet
