Specific Title: Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology Location: IU School of Medicine Department: IUSM - Pediatrics Campus: IU School of Medicine Indianapolis Position Announcement: Indiana University School of Medicine is announcing the search for a Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology within the Department of Pediatrics. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a visionary leader, who will lead the division to national and international prominence as a clinical, educational and research center of excellence in pediatric endocrinology. IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country with more than 20,000 living alumni and 3,000 learners. Its diverse faculty is made up of 2,700 full-time members and 3,200 volunteer faculty who are responsible for training medical, graduate and postgraduate students. IU School of Medicine is the only allopathic medical school in Indiana. In addition to the flagship campus in Indianapolis, the school has eight campuses in communities that range from urban hubs like Gary to rural communities such as Terre Haute, allowing learners to experience medicine in all settings. The Department of Pediatrics at IUSM/Riley Hospital for Children is a 360-member faculty that is consistently within the top 10 pediatric departments in NIH funded research in the United States (Peds 2019 #7 among all medical schools and #3 among all public institutions) and has 18 Fellowship programs. There is a new large pediatric clinical research center, a new pediatric outpatient center dedicated to general pediatrics and neurodevelopment related divisions in pediatrics, genetics, and psychiatry. There are also State-of-the-art laboratories in a dedicated pediatric research building, a clinical research center, a well-functioning biobank, six T32 fellow training grants and one K12s that support research in the Department. Our nationally recognized Division of Children's Health Research is available for collaboration and as a resource. The Department also has research relationships with the Regenstrief Institute in Health Informatics. The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology was founded in the 1980's and currently has 17 faculty members and 3 fellows. Faculty in the division are engaged in cutting-edge clinical, basic and translational research in type I and type 2 diabetes as well as in a wide variety of endocrine conditions. The division has a well-established ACGME accredited fellowship program that has been in existence since 1988. Faculty in the division serve in numerous national leadership positions and are considered experts in their field. The division has an extremely busy clinical service and a referral base of ~5 million. Approximately 13,000 outpatient visits take place each year at Riley and IU North as well as in outreach clinics in South Bend, Evansville, Bloomington and at St. Francis. The diabetes team, comprised of nurse practitioners, CDEs and social workers, cares for over 2000 patients, 57% of whom are on insulin pumps. The division is renowned for its dynamic, innovative and collaborative faculty and a well-rounded combination of state-of-the-art research and comprehensive multidisciplinary clinical care. Faculty would be joining a vibrant research community with a particular strength in diabetes and metabolic research. IUSM is the home to the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (CDMD), one of 18 NIH P30 funded Diabetes Research Centers. The CDMD provides support for research cores, pilot and feasibility grant funding, and a number of enrichment activities, including an Annual Diabetes Symposium and weekly multidisciplinary seminar series. IUSM diabetes faculty provide leadership to several large national and international multisite diabetes networks and studies, including Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, the Network for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD), the Integrated Islet Distribution Program, the Immune Tolerance Network, the Restoring Insulin Secretion (RISE) study, the Comparative Effectiveness Study of Major Glycemia-lowering Medications for Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes (GRADE), the Human Islet Research Network, and the Rare and Atypical Diabetes Network (RADIANT). In addition, IUSM is home to the NIH-funded Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), which is a statewide research partnership between IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame University. IUSM is also affiliated with the prestigious Regenstrief Institute, a national and international leader in patient-centered research and health informatics, and the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute, connecting academic institutions and industry partners in Indiana.
