For physical therapists who aspire to become leaders in the specialty of pediatrics we offer a full-time one year residency at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center (CDRC) attheOHSUInstitute on Development&Disability.

The Physical Therapy (PT) Residency functions within the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program. The LEND program promotes leadership, research skills, and clinical expertise in graduate level health care professionals who intend to devote their careers to working with children, youth and adults with a variety of health conditions including developmental disabilities. This residency program is credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association.


Clinical Service: provides pediatric-based PT service in:

  • The CDRC venue: interdisciplinary team clinics and in the PT Program, providing PT evaluation, program planning, direct treatment and community consultation for those with developmental disorders affecting motor performance.
  • The Doernbecher Children's Hospital (DCH) inpatient venue, providing PT evaluation, program planning, direct service, floor staff consultation, and discharge planning for selected children in DCH

Teaching

  • Assists in academic instruction

Clinical Research

  • Engages in original research related to PT including IRB submission, recruiting for, consenting and gathering data from participants and writing up results.
  • May cooperate in joint research projects with other faculty and staff of IDD conducting clinical research as it pertains to children with special health needs, chronic illness, or neurodevelopmental disability. The same requirements pertain with cooperative projects as with original research.

Other activities:

  • Participates in other activities pertinent to the discipline of PT and consistent with the mission and goals of IDD and OHSU. Such activities include, but are not limited to, CDRC-OHSU outreach clinics; screening, consultation and technical assistance to community agencies and providers; serving on agency and university committees; and, participation in departmental meetings, journal clubs, and in-service presentations.


  • The Pediatric PT Resident will hold a degree in PT. The candidate will have graduated from an accredited school of physical therapy.
  • Be eligible for physical therapy licensure in Oregon. Licensure is necessary for participation in the residency program.
