Job Title: Preschool Head Teacher Reports To: Head of School
SUMMARY International Children's Academy seeks a Preschool Teacher for 2020-2021 to foster students’ intellectual, social- emotional, and ethical growth. A full-time member of the Preschool Faculty, this Teacher will work alongside a faculty committed to innovating their teaching practices and will report to the Head of School.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Along with the Early Childhood team, plan, direct, and coordinate a dynamic, play-based learning environment that affirms and supports ICA’s mission and values
Implement I.B. Curriculum, in connection with I.B. best practices and professional development.
Facilitate the social, emotional, and academic growth of students
Provide a hands-on, intentional, play-based style of learning; manage collaborative learning groups
Actively participate in faculty culture committed to being at the leading edge of Preschool-Grade 6 education
Develop best practice, and implement long- and short-range plans for differentiated instruction
Provide timely communication with parents/guardians through calls, emails, regular newsletters, progress reports, and conferences
Provide clear learning objectives for student, parent, and administrative utilization
Develop and implement clear learning objectives and aligned student assessment methods that will consistently and continuously provide a basis for evaluating and reporting student progress
Responsible for directing and supervising Assistant Teacher(s)
Attend weekly faculty meetings
Participate in professional development, especially I.B. Training
Perform other related duties as required

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position:
Have one of the following:
Twelve postsecondary semester units in early childhood education from an accredited college and six months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or similar program. The units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development; child, family and community; and program/curriculum o A current and valid Child Development Associate Teacher, Teacher, or Master Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
A minimum of five years teaching experience in a Pre-K/TK/DK or early childhood setting
Background or experience with the International Baccalaureate Curriculum.
Fifteen hours of health and safety training, if necessary, pursuant to Health and Safety code, Section 1596.866
Expertise in student-centered, collaborative, and play-based teaching methodologies
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a teaching team
Excellent organizational, time management, and follow-through skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents in an evolving diverse, inclusive community
Proven cultural competence in a diversity responsive community
Desire for ongoing professional development, particularly as related to academic and cultural competencies as well as the International Baccalaureate Curriculum.
High degree of professional behavior, including discretion, judgment, and integrity
Passion for his/her desire to teach and to learn from young people
Willingness to take risks and seize leadership opportunities as they arise
Commitment to staying current with research on best practice
