Responsibilities The Child Life Specialist Per Diem performs patient assessments and implements appropriate interventions for pediatric patients. Provides emotional support, procedural preparation, and accompaniment for pediatric patients and their families in order to facilitate adjustment to the hospital environment and experience. Provides patient resources and family support. Supervises volunteers and foster grandparents, and provides guidance to the child life interns and fellows. This particular position will either be assigned to float between units based on need or assigned to a particular unit for coverage.
Bachelor's degree in Child Development or related field
Current Child Life Certification
Knowledge of child development and theory
Knowledge of appropriate Child Life interventions with patients and families
Knowledge of Child Life theory and how to apply theory to practice
Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis and procedures
Ability to effectively communicate with parents, pediatric patients and siblings about social, emotional, developmental and patient education issues
Ability to chart assessments, interventions and plans in medical records
Master's degree in Child Life or related field
Special Requirements This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
