Stevens Cooperative School is seeking a Middle School Learning Support Specialist for the 2020-2021 school year. The Middle School Learning support teacher will work with small groups of students, individual students, and pushing into classes to support students who require academic support.
Create academic profiles for students who require academic support
Maintain regular times established to check in on students of concern
Team plan with humanities teachers and use classroom instruction resources and assignments to devise instructional and scaffolded learning strategies
Provide in-class direct instructional support for grades 5th-8th in reading, writing, and other literacy activities (including planning Guided Reading sessions), Math skills, and executive function-related activities (i.e., organizational systems)
Plan, implement and coordinate pull-out support for students identified as requiring specific needs
Provide short-term remediation for skills that are no longer being taught in the classroom
Conduct pull-out sessions for students when required for skill development and remediation.
Provide consultation to faculty as to what strategies may be effective for students of concern, develop ways to measure the effectiveness of the strategies and create differentiated scaffolding documents for written assignments
Provide written assessments for progress reports on children getting 1:1 support
Communicate updates and progress on a regular basis with families of students who are receiving support
Masters degree in a related field
Knowledge of child development, cognitive milestones and learning support programs
Knowledge of literacy development and best practices to devise interventions for students demonstrating challenges with literacy
Identification and monitoring of students with learning difficulties using observations and other cognitive assessments
Ability to create individual educational plans
Strong ability to form positive relationships with students
Exemplary teaching skills and capabilities and experience with providing instructional support strategies in reading and writing
Ability to develop, select and use informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess student learning
Ability to maintain clear records pertaining to student progress and assessment
Excellent verbal and writing skills
Excellent organizational skills
