Position Vacancy - Advisor/Instructor, Early Childhood Special Education ProgramGraduate School Faculty Position - 2 positions available About Bank StreetBank Street College was founded over 100 years ago in the tradition of progressive education and is committed to learner-centered education based on sound developmental principles. The master's programs integrate direct experience with children, teachers, and families; exploration and examination of theory and research; and observation and reflection. Our curriculum supports the development of intellectual curiosity grounded in a social justice orientation.Position DescriptionThis is a full time, 10-month faculty position for an instructor and advisor for the early childhood special education program. Sixty percent of the position is course teaching, which is equivalent to approximately four courses spread over the fall, spring, summer I and/or summer II semesters. The advisor role is 40% of the position.Candidates must have depth of experience in the field teaching, ideally across a range of urban settings; as well as demonstrated depth of knowledge and experience with progressive pedagogies. Bank Street College is not a tenure granting institution, nor does it have traditional professorial ranks. The position is eligible for a renewable 3-year contract pending a review period. We are looking for expertise across at least three of the following content areas for course instruction: • Assessment (formal and informal) of linguistically diverse children with developmental variations • Curriculum development and instruction for children with developmental variations • Developmental variations and special education history and policies • Assistive technology • Autism • Infant and toddler development and programming Supervised fieldwork advisors:• Visit advisees at their sites monthly for a ½ day and conduct meetings with site supervisor and student, as applicable• Convene and facilitate two one-on-one meetings with each advisee monthly • Lead and facilitate weekly conference group with all advisees All full-time faculty must engage in service to the community through committee work and participation in program, department and divisional meetings; and mentor graduate students on their integrative master’s projects. This position is based in our Manhattan campus, but requires flexibility to teach at locations in other boroughs as well as to teach and advise online. Qualifications:• 5 or more years of teaching experience with children in early childhood special education and/or inclusion contexts.• Experience teaching in higher education. • Master’s degree in early childhood special education or related field required; doctorate in early childhood special education or related field preferred. • Teacher certification in early childhood special education preferred. • Experience teaching online preferred. • Orientation to examine practice and theory through multiple and intersecting lenses—e.g. critical race theory, disability studies—preferred. • Experience working with children from a range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds preferred. Position is subject to funding availability.
