Trinity-Pawling, one of the leading boarding schools in the country, is a close-knit community of over 100 employees and approximately 300 students. Currently, we are seeking a Registered Nurse to identify and treat health disorders among students and provide instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention. This position will report to the Nurse Manager.
Provide health care by evaluating and assessing the condition of the students, referring students to appropriate resources, and rendering care in accordance with regulations and the Nurse Practice Act.
Administer daily and psychotropic medications by complying with doctor’s orders, initiating appropriate follow-up and documentation, and collaborating with parents, dorm parents, and appropriate senior leaders.
Record, track, and (as necessary) share student’s health concerns (allergies, injuries, or limitations) by systematically informing status to faculty, parents, and administration, administering baseline and post-injury concussion tests, and documenting findings using the SOAP method.
Maintain records by collecting student health documents (physicals, immunizations, etc.) for incoming students, ensuring files are up-to-date, auditing files for missing information, and meeting the requirements of NYSIIS and DOH.
Respect privacy by adhering to the rules and regulations in place (HIPPA and Patient Privacy), securing files and records in a confidential manner, and treating students with dignity.
Maintain safety of students by identifying and reporting suspected neglect or abuse (physical, sexual, substance), updating School leaders or parents as appropriate, and documenting observations.
Provide quality care by adhering to rules and regulations (DOH, OSHA), following policies and procedures and checklists, maintaining an accurate inventory of supplies, and recommending changes for improvement.
Develop personal mastery by participating in professional development, networking to incorporate best practices, and reading professional publications.
Promote the interest of students by being a good role model, establishing and reinforcing clear boundaries and guidelines, encouraging students’ autonomy and independence, and acting in a transparent manner.
Performs other duties as may be required.
Current RN Certification; licensed in NYS, and CPR Certified; must have a strong knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practices and skill in their application; must have a working knowledge of child development as it relates to health issues, risk factors, current health practices, infection control, and personal hygiene. Prior experience as a School Nurse is preferred.
Candidate must be able to:
Demonstrate skill in the application of nursing techniques and practices;
Understand and follow technical, oral, and written instructions;
Use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software;
Organize and maintain accurate records and executes reports;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, and others;
Motivate students in an immersive residential educational setting;
Communicate clearly, effectively, and compassionately (orally and in writing) with students, parents, faculty, and administrators;
Be flexible in scheduling and work at least one weekend per month;
Meet the physical demands of the position which could include sitting for prolonged periods of time at a desk or computer workstation, using repetitive arm, hand, and finger movements, traveling on uneven terrain, climbing/descending stairs, standing for long periods of time, and carrying up to 50 pounds.
