The University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC Children's), in partnership with Russell Reynolds Associates, announce a national search for a leader who will hold the positions of the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at UCI and Vice President & Pediatrician-in-Chief at CHOC Children's.

The School of Medicine pediatrics department and its 16 divisions spanning the spectrum of diseases and disorders, brings real-world academics, scientists and clinicians together to collaborate, uncover new knowledge through research, and effectively apply that knowledge to advance children's health. The department is also home to several academic and clinical centers and programs focused on a variety of children's health issues - The Center for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Conte Center on Brain Programming in Adolescent Vulnerabilities, Pediatric Exercise and Genomics Research Center (PERC), UCI Health Child Development School, and the UCI Health Pediatric Gender Diversity Program.
As Chair, the successful candidate will be a nationally-recognized scholar and forward-thinking leader, one with a distinguished record of achievement in research and scholastic work, building academic programs, and administration. As senior leader of the department, the Chair has responsibility for departmental strategic planning, taking into account the goals of the School. Balancing the tripartite mission will be paramount, with encouragement and support for research productivity and creativity, innovative educational and training programs, and exceptional clinical excellence. The successful candidate will be a role model and advocate, who acts collaboratively and with due consideration for the cultural values of UCI Health (Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Innovation, Service and Excellence - ARIISE).
The Vice President and Pediatrician-in-Chief (PIC) at CHOC Children's serves as the key physician executive liaison between CHOC and UCI. The PIC, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, Surgeon-in-Chief, and Medical Director of CHOC Medical Foundation, serves as senior clinical leader with oversight responsibility for the pediatric medical/surgical services, academic advancement, research, and teaching programs. The PIC's primary responsibility is to help formulate CHOC's clinical vision, develop clinical standards, and fully integrate research and academic priorities across the continuum of care at CHOC and UCI's pediatric programs. As the clinical advisor to the President and CEO, and as one of the lead physician executives responsible for advancement of clinical and academic programs, the PIC develops and implements strategies to unify the activities and priorities of CHOC's medical/surgical network of physicians/surgeons. An important function of the PIC is to serve as a key contributor to CHOC's strategic plan and develop the needed steps and milestones toward an annual clinical plan. Additionally, the PIC actively participates in the development and implementation of the master campus plan designed to build a world-class pediatric enterprise.
Qualified candidates will: have earned an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent), be board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, currently be eligible for a medical license in the state of California. Candidates must demonstrate a record of scholarly productivity eligible for appointment as an associate or full professor, in one of the University of California's Academic Senate faculty series, and involvement in academic societies at a national level.
