The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 200 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 4.
The position will involve working across multiple projects, each of which has complex longitudinal data. The exact structure of the data will differ across projects. The position will require the ability to manage and analyze datasets with varying structures.
The position will involve taking both a lead and supporting role in the preparation of publications in peer reviewed journals. As a lead author, the position will require crafting the research question, gathering information on past relevant research, and contributing to the authorship of all parts of journal articles. The position will also involve supporting other authors in an analyst capacity, with primary responsibilities devoted to preparing the methods and results sections of journal articles.
The position will involve presenting results of research at academic conferences. The position will require the ability to take varying approaches to analyzing data, including the use of multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, and event history and survival analysis
Master’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology or related field
4 years work related experiences
Expertise with statistical software (SPSS, MPlus, STATA, HLM),
Excellent critical thinking skills,
Superior critical thinking skills, up-to-date knowledge of research on the etiology of and preventive interventions for marijuana and alcohol misuse and other health risk behaviors among adolescents and young adults,
Knowledge of marijuana policy evaluation,
Knowledge of experimental designs used in the evaluation of psychosocial interventions
Grant writing skills
Knowledge of research literatures in the areas of prevention research, psychosocial intervention evaluation, epidemiology of substance use, and statistical methodologies for the analysis of longitudinal data
Extensive experience preparing manuscripts as the lead-author as well as co-author for peer reviewed journals
