The Raleigh School seeks an Elementary Director (Kindergarten-Grade 5) who possesses a deep understanding of child development, progressive pedagogy, and educational research; a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; and a spirit of collaboration and joy. With an advanced degree and independent school classroom and leadership experience, the ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of Responsive Classroom, have experience with project-based learning, possess exceptional communication and organizational skills, and be technologically proficient.

The campus is comprised of 18 wooded acres, 18 classrooms, the Arts and Athletic Center, Media Center and extensive natural play areas, including a new elementary playscape. Outdoor learning, including exploration through field trips, is integral to the curriculum. Raleigh is located in the southeastern corner of the Research Triangle, a prospering area with three leading research universities, many high-tech companies and an impressive array of museums and cultural activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the operations of the elementary school, grades K – 5.
Lead major initiatives related to curriculum, pedagogy, and student experience.
Support a culture of pedagogical reflection and serve as an engaged thought partner and instructional leader with faculty.
Foster culturally competent and inclusive classrooms.
Educate and guide families on topics related to child development and learning.
Hire, observe, supervise, and evaluate the elementary faculty.
Stay current with research related to play, child development, and progressive pedagogy.
Oversee the success of over 250 students, working with parents, guardians, students, and staff to ensure academic growth and social and emotional learning.
Develop and sustain close partnerships with families and be a visible presence on campus.
Serve as an active and collaborative member of the senior administrative leadership team.
Maintain harmony between the school’s mission and all activities of the elementary division.
