Child Life Specialist

To implement and provide a comprehensive program of Child Life Services that help meet the emotional, developmental, and social needs of children in a health care setting. To provide opportunities for children to gain a sense of mastery, offering play and learning experiences, and encouraging family and peer interaction. Provides child life assessments and normalizes the hospital environment for patients and families. Promotes and provides developmentally appropriate interventions for patients and families. Represents and communicates child life and psychosocial issues of pediatric health care to professionals outside of child life.

Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Psychology, Sociology, or Human Development or a related field. Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is knowledge of normal child development and age appropriate activities and the effects of hospitalization of development and coping. Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is the ability to provide developmental assessments Represent and communicate child life and psychosocial issues of pediatric health care to others Exhibit strong/effective group facilitation skills Strong interpersonal communication skills Effective time and resource management Flexibility Strong oral and written communication skills The ability to learn and utilize computer skills. |
