The Manager of Child and Family Life Services is responsible for the creating a welcoming, stress reducing environment and the delivery of high quality, comprehensive supportive services to children and families at OHSU and Doernbecher Childrens Hospital. Through direct clinical supervision, program administration and leadership this position manages specially trained staff to provide care and support designed to meet the unique needs of children and families as they cope with illness, injury, treatment, hospitalization and the overall healthcare experience. Will create implement and evaluate the Child & Family Life program. - Manages and leads all child and family life services and included programs like art therapy, pet therapy, patient media program, DCH volunteer program and all patient and family advisory functions within DCH
- Directs the creation, implementation, evaluation and improvement of Child and Family Life services across the continuum of care for children and families served by OHSU
- Oversees relationship building with families, family partnership agreements, follow-up services, and goal setting of program and families.
- Coordinates the selection, orientation, supervision, performance management and ongoing professional development of the Child Life staff, interns, students and volunteers.
- Provides oversight for Child and Family Life services that are developmentally appropriate, psychosocially sound and family centered.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provisions of services: ensures that policies and procedures are in alignment with regulatory requirements.

- Provides education in regards to the child and familys adaptation to the health care experience and collaborates with the patient care team on appropriate interventions.
- Provide routine, robust clinical supervision for child life staff, interns, medical and clinical staff, volunteers, etc

- Collaborates with the Volunteer manager in selecting, orienting, training, and supervising of volunteers assigned to department.
- Support the Hospital School Program as sponsored by Multnomah Education Service District
- Oversees and supports the Advisory Council activities, including:
- Development of effective strategies for engagement and appropriate intervention/support
- Recruitment of Advisors
- Training, supervision and providing feedback
- Analyzes data for trends, patterns and needs of family outcome data for monthly reports, parent training, and advocacy activities.
- Maintain clinical competency through education and continuing professional development

- Advocates and facilitates improvements and ongoing maintenance of pediatric play spaces and waiting areas to promote child and family friendly environments

- Masters in Child Life, Child Development, Recreation Therapy or health related field.

- 3 years of progressively responsible experience in a related pediatric health care field and setting required.
- Thorough understanding and awareness of hospitalized/ ill children's developmental processes.
- Ability to make independent decisions, analyze situations, solve complex problems. Proficient in software applications.
- Child Life Certification required.
