As ZERO TO THREE’s Director of Communications, you will play a lead role in advancing our mission and elevating the organization’s profile as the leading voice for infant and toddler health and wellbeing. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, you will support the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy to amplify a unified, compelling narrative about our critical work. You will develop and execute innovative communications plans for our priority initiatives and serve as the lead orchestrator for day-to-day organizational communications activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the development and implementation of integrated communications plans for ZERO TO THREE’s key initiatives and primary focus areas
Oversee the implementation of a proactive media relations strategy to advance ZERO TOTHREE’s position as the leading source for media on early childhood development-relatedissues
Support the media relations team with developing and maintaining close relationships with targetedmedia, including online, print, and broadcast journalists, editorial writers and columnists, and otherkey influencers
Champion innovation across our digital platforms and serve as an evangelist for the use ofsocial media throughout the organization
In partnership with digital team, oversee the creation of digital and print content from conceptthrough production that engages targeted audience segments and leads to measurable action.
Content types include but are not limited to branding (corporate identity), video, website, socialmedia, presentations, annual report, brochures, briefs, print ads, exhibit displays, newsletters,e-appeals
Provide reporting and analysis of communications initiatives to ensure objectives are met andto support continuous optimization and improvement in messaging/creative andoperational/cost efficiencies
Support the development of the organizational communications vision and plan to advance ZEROTO THREE’s mission, grow our brand and reputation nationally and globally, increase revenue,advance our policy agenda and grow our membership
Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to direct reports
Performs other duties as designed to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the program
Skills and Experience
A minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit communications, policy communications,public relations
A proven track record of developing and implementing innovative communications strategies in complex organizations and capable of integrating disparate elements into a cohesive whole.
Passion and experience in building strong brands
Deep experience with a wide range of communications practices, social media, digital media(video, audio, mobile), media relations, public relations, and influencer marketing
Excellent written and oral communications skills with sharp attention to detail. Adept at creativeand compelling storytelling across varied mediums
Demonstrated management experience with strong track record of leading and inspiring teams toachieve exceptional results
Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated flexibility, maturityand ability to work collaboratively and to build strong relationships in a distributed environment of staff, leadership and consultants with varying backgrounds and work style
Strong time management and project management skills. Capacity to work well with competing priorities and tight deadlines
Must be able to guide the work of vendors and consultants in a fast-paced, entrepreneurialenvironment

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is occasionally required to perform repetitive motions and use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also may need to remain seated for long periods of time. Employee is occasionally required to walk, and frequently required to utilize a writing instrument and have the ability to communicate verbally and receive detailed information through oral communication. The employee may be required to grasp objects, push or pull objects, bend, squat, reach, stand or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for data preparation or analysis, and frequent expansive reading.
The work conditions described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. The employee will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during travel. The incumbent typically works indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels.
