POSITION AVAILABILITY: The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Early Childhood Development position at the associate or full rank. The position will begin August 16, 2020.
RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking applicants with expertise and a program of research in early childhood development. Applicants’ research focus may include, but is not limited to, socioemotional development, school and family contexts, stress and resilience within vulnerable populations, and early intervention. We are especially interested in applicants with expertise in early education and advanced statistical methods. Applicants should provide evidence of an established, active, and externally funded program of research. Applicants must be able to advance early childhood development research and practice to prepare researchers in the study of early development, as well as students entering the early education teacher workforce. Successful candidates are expected to maintain a productive, externally funded program of research and produce scholarly publications. Responsibilities also include instruction, supervision and advising of students, and service assignments.
THE DEPARTMENT: The Department includes 30 faculty members (20 full-time, tenure track) and offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees in HDFS. The department also has a strong interest in hiring faculty who have demonstrated commitment to diversity through lived experience, teaching proficiencies, and/or research interests. Both serve children and families in our state while functioning as research laboratories as well as learning sites for university students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in HDFS, early childhood education, child development, or a closely related area at the time employment begins, a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and demonstrable extramural funding. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should demonstrate the ability to educate early childhood teachers, develop relevant curriculum, and teach/develop/use evidence-based instructional practices. Expertise in advanced statistics and methods is desirable.
