We are opening our second site in Hayward in 2020 with a founding class of three-year-old children and families. During the first year of operation in Hayward, parents with toddlers will engage in programming focused on family well-being and preschool readiness. Parents will then be able to enroll in the preschool in the fall of 2020. Drawing on key learnings from our first site, core components of the model include partnering closely with parents throughout their child’s development and supporting parent wellness; coordinating early screening and developmental support and offering a full-day school starting with three-year-olds; and working with existing health care providers in the community to coordinate care for children.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Primary School is seeking a skilled individual and leader to manage our parent wellness programming at our newest site in Hayward. We believe deeply in the power of all parents to drive positive academic and health outcomes for their children, and as such, our parent program is a cornerstone of the TPS model. We work closely with parents of all children to integrate supports across early childhood, health, and school systems and leverage parent strengths to drive the highest possible return on investment for adults and children.
The Parent Program Lead will oversee the implementation of our parent coaching program. The Lead will report to the Executive Director of Hayward and will work closely with our current parent program director and existing program team to ensure successful implementation of the core The Primary School model and work with local Hayward staff to customize the program to the unique needs of family needs and our local community partners. The Lead will also hold a caseload of families while building out a team of coaches.
The Lead will have a strong track record of working with families and/or community members in social services, health, early childhood and/or parent supports; managing a talented and diverse team of staff; and developing and implementing programs.
Work with program leaders to translate design into execution.
Tailor curriculum and materials to meet the site-based needs of coaches and families.
Manage and align shared talent, time, space and resources to execute on all program goals.
Track program enrollment, attendance, and evaluations.
Partner with school leadership and health partners to ensure families receive a seamless experience across programs at The Primary School.
Utilize quantitative and qualitative data to ensure program quality and continuous improvement.
Troubleshoot and problem solve cross-program issues as needed.
Share insights from coaches and families to inform and modify iterations of programming.
Ensure metrics of success are being consistently met.
Direct program delivery
Deliver coaching (both group-based and individual) and care coordination to a caseload of families.
Supervise and support the training and ongoing development of parent coaches.
Coordinate with parent program director, health and school staff, and other staff who support the parent program.
Administration and operations
Work with the Hayward Executive Director and functional experts to ensure smooth day-to-day program operations, including scheduling, program assignments, space planning, and program budgeting and expense management.
Lead staffing planning and coordination of parent coach hiring.
5-10 years of experience supporting adults who have experienced trauma and/or crises, in the mental health, public health, education, and/or social services fields.
Ability to lead and coach others to deliver group-based and individual programming.
Team first mindset; experience collaborating across internal and external stakeholders.
Embody empathy and embrace cultural differences, recognizing how to navigate groups and individuals representing a range of needs, abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to stay organized and manage time across multiple priorities.
Highly self-aware and self motivated, and humble.
Recognize that working with families often requires work on evenings and weekends.
Successful record of developing and managing staff in a strengths-based approach to working with families.
Ability to anticipate and address problems and navigate your team towards effective solutions.
Adaptable and flexible; comfort with ambiguity and environments that change course as needed.
Belief in the mission of The Primary School and that all children and families are capable of extraordinary things.

The Primary School is expanding the boundaries of traditional education. Our holistic model weaves together education, health, and family support services to ensure underserved children have the system of care they need to lead meaningful and emotionally, mentally, and physically healthy lives. The Primary School was founded in 2015, and we received seed funding by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a major national philanthropy.

We work with - not around - families. We know that parents and caregivers are the most important people in a child’s life. We partner with them to enhance the education and health of their children.
We integrate multiple systems to serve the whole child. Our unique model unites health care and education, building a multi-disciplinary team and holistic system of care around a child’s full needs.
In 2016, we opened our flagship school in East Palo Alto, California, with our first class of four-year-olds. We have grown to serve nearly 300 childr...en and their families via a 0-3 parent/child program, a preschool and elementary school.
Our ultimate goal is to create a game-changing system of care for children that can be replicated across the country. To that end, we are building a model that can be effectively implemented in diverse communities and sustained on public funding. In 2019, we plan to both expand our student and family population in East Palo Alto and pursue opening our next site in Hayward, California. It’s an exciting time to join the team!
