POSITION DESCRIPTION: Provide comprehensive child development services to the children of participants in HOW’s programs across the City of Chicago with a strong emphasis on academic improvement and success. Collaborate with HOW staff toward family goals as they relate to the well-being of children.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Outreach to families and engage parents and children
Work closely with the Support Services Team toward integrated family goals
Assess the academic needs of individual children
Develop individual plans with children and families to support goals
Use appropriate measurement tools to assess progress
Implement programs and activities that meet the educational and social needs of children
Link children to external community resources as needed
Participate in the ongoing development and management of tutoring programs
Participate in the design and implementation of off-site programs
Assist with relevant advocacy efforts
Act as a liaison between parents and teachers
Data entry and tracking in all relevant data systems database
Maintain client files
Participate in all relevant HOW meetings
Perform other duties as assigned
This position is supervised by: Manager of Youth and Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Child Development, or Psychology
Minimum two years of experience working with youth and children
Knowledge of homelessness and housing issues, Housing First, Harm Reduction
Comfortable working with diverse groups of people including: Homeless population and LGBT.
Excellent oral and written communication; exceptional organizational skills.
Excellent research capabilities and comfortable working in a team setting
Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs.
STARTING SALARY: Starts in the mid $40,000’s.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, with flexibility required including some weekends. Work entails travel.
Essential Functions Include:
Able to lift a minimum of 25lbs, and walk up and down stairs
Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and proof of automobile insurance
Must pass applicable background checks, CANT’s screening.
