The ideal candidate is an experienced, energetic, innovative and accomplished Spanish teacher, familiar with numerous modalities of instruction in which learning is collaborative, creative, relevant, multi-modal and multi-sensory. S/he understands child development and takes a constructivist approach to teaching and learning; values collaboration, feedback, and parent and community engagement, and; is proficient in speaking, writing and teaching Spanish.
THE SPANISH TEACHER WILL
Teach a range of levels in the elementary grades (K-5)
Use dialogic process for teaching elementary grades
Implement TPRS, Reader’s Theatre, songs, art, and others
Plan and implement a Scope and Sequence Curriculum guide to include skill areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, presentation, and cultural competency
Use developmentally appropriate technology relevant to teaching World Languages
Work collaboratively with colleagues not only within the Spanish class but in the school community as a whole

Accurately assess each student's progress; inform student, parents, lead teacher, and the Head of School immediately of any relevant information.
Cultivate each student's creativity, intellectual curiosity, social-emotional development in an academically rich and relevant context.
This is currently projected to be a PT position. However, it is possible the position can be full-time with the addition of other responsibilities. The Spanish teacher begins in Mid-August 2019.
At Berkwood Hedge, a teacher's engagement includes various activities in addition to teaching and classroom duties, such as giving extra help to students who need it, communicating feedback directly to the Head of School, encouragement of the efforts of colleagues, concern for the appearance of the classroom and of the grounds, promptness in meeting all School obligations (arrival in good time, meeting classes, submitting progress reports), and flexibility and cooperation in supporting our school’s advancement. Attendance at School events and activities, such as plays, concerts, festivals, and fairs, etc., is required. Attendance at designated staff meetings and open houses is required.
