Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe Infant Toddler Center and Wimpfheimer Nursery School, located on the Vassar College campus, are laboratory early childhood settings which serve as teacher training and research facilities, and welcomes Vassar and community families. The Toddler Program at ITC provides direct care to 10 toddlers (age range 18 to 36 months). The 2s3s Program at WNS provides direct care to 7 toddlers (ages two and three).
Reporting to the Site Director at ITC or the Director of Wimpfheimer, the Assistant Teacher position is a two-year cycle, in the toddler programs at the Infant Toddler Center (ITC) and Wimpfheimer Nursery School (WNS). The Assistant Teacher will be in the ITC's Toddler Program for one school year, and then move with the children to Wimpfheimer's 2s3s program the following year.
This Assistant Teacher will teach in one of these toddler classrooms each year. This position is a member of the teaching team in the Toddler Program. The Assistant Teacher provides nurturing and responsive caregiving and engages in consistent and ongoing interaction and developmentally appropriate practices with toddlers throughout the day.
Flexibility is required as hours may occasionally need to be adjusted or modified due to staffing or programming needs. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. for the Infant Toddler Program and Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the Wimpfheimer Nursery School. Anticipated start date for this position is August 2019.
Implement innovative curriculum development;
Provide and model positive discipline practices in classroom management;
Interact with and support parents, families;
Supervise college work study student;
Write parent newsletters;
Assist researchers working with children;
Care for the general classroom and school environment as well as other duties as assigned by the Site Director (ITC) or the Director and/or Assistant Director (WNS).
Qualifications Qualifications: A minimum of a CDA in early childhood education plus a Bachelor's degree or an Associate's degree in Childhood Education or related field; Experience in a lab school setting preferred; Flexibility, creativity, effective communication skills, professionalism and strong teamwork skills are required; Punctuality and consistency in attendance is critical to maintaining a sense of comfort, reliability and structure for the children in our care; Must successfully complete all requirements of the Office of Children and Family Services.
