Department Summary The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) at the University of Oregon is a multidisciplinary institute focused on understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. The PSI evolved from the Child and Family Center, which remains as a center within the PSI.
The core mission of the PSI is to improve the lives and well-being of at-risk children, individuals, and families throughout the lifespan. The PSI is a research institute designed for collaboration between faculty across disciplines, including psychology, social and affective neuroscience, development, and education, and others who are interested in prevention. Position Summary The Clinical Supervisor works as a family therapist, service provider, and implementation scientist, and serves as a liaison between families and communities, provides educational materials and brief interventions to families, conducts family and child assessments, refers families to specialized services, as needed, and maintains fidelity to intervention models. The position is part of two federally funded grants. Project one is aimed at improving student’s transition to middle school. Project two is aimed at supporting parents of children with developmental delays during early childhood.
In addition to working as a family therapist, the Clinical Supervisor (CS) also trains and supervises one to two other family therapists to ensure fidelity of intervention implementation in each project. The CS maintains open communication with the Principal Investigator (PI) of each project, works collaboratively with team members to accomplish research goals, and reports to each PI with all details relating to the intervention process.
The Clinical Supervisor performs work in the field of counseling psychology that requires advanced knowledge, defined as work which is predominantly intellectual in character, and consistently exercises discretion and independent judgement.
Additional expectations of the position: • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Minimum Requirements • Ph.D. in psychology, education, counseling, or related field. • Licensed to practice psychology, counseling, or school psychology, or be eligible for a license, in the state of Oregon. • Experience working with children (through adolescence); knowledge of child development. • Experience interacting with families, home environments, and parents.
Professional Competencies • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and public presentation skills. • Demonstrated ability to provide positive parenting feedback in an appropriate, clinically informed manner. • Demonstrated effectiveness as a team member. • Multi-cultural competence and experience working in diverse communities.
Preferred Qualifications • Supervisory experience in empirically-based family interventions. • Experience with behavioral interventions and/or parent training/education interventions. • Experience with the Incredible Years parenting intervention. • Experience with mindfulness-based stress reduction. • Experience with direct services with high risk populations. • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. • Experience working with parents of children with developmental delays. • Experience collaborating with a variety of disciplines and social service agencies. • Experience with intervention research and/or randomized controlled trial research methodology. • Fluency in Spanish.
