Poly Prep Country Day School announces a search for a Middle School Counselor, grades 5 through 8.
Poly Prep strives to provide a joyful, diverse, just, and equitable education for our students. We seek a Middle School Counselor with expertise in connecting with pre-teens and their families regarding their emotional, social, physical, and health needs, who is committed to promoting these values, and whose competence, integrity, and collegiality will enrich our school and health services program. This position will be for four days per week.
Responsibilities of this four-day per week position include:
Meets with students individually and in small groups.
Collaborates closely with the support services team: learning specialists, school nurse, and Director of Psychological Services to promote the physical, social, emotional, educational, and health needs of the Middle School.
Collaborates with outside practitioners, including tutors, therapists, evaluators to make referrals and follow up on student care.
Collaborates with administration, Deans, advisors, and teachers on individual students, programming, and teaching of the Health and Wellness curriculum.
Initiates and participates in meetings with parents and/or teachers as needed.
Hosts talks and workshops about parenting, various mental health issues, and child development topics.
Facilitates various support and affinity groups for students (such as Banana Splits).
Attends faculty meetings, grade-level team meetings, various school events, and gatherings.
This position will report to the Director of Psychological Services and Head of Middle School.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, experience, and enthusiasm for supporting students and families; a passion for a teaching and learning environment; a growth mindset; and a sense of humor. She or he will be able to inspire and empower students to learn; collaborate and engage in daily discourse about student growth and development with colleagues; write well; and commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. The ideal candidate will be a NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or psychologist with at least three years of post-graduate experience working in a school, clinic, or health community with students ranging from age 10-14.
