We are looking for fun, energetic, child-development oriented, staff to be positive role models for our campers. The City of Largo is a healthy lifestyle employer and all facilities and parks are smoke free.
Camp Counselors help plan, lead and implement fun activities, programs and experiences for children participating in summer day camps. Counselors are also responsible for the general safety of all campers in an assigned group by engaging campers in age-appropriate team oriented activities and handling any behavioral issues.
WORK SCHEDULE: Hours and shifts for this position vary from week to week and may include weekends, evenings and holidays.
Highland or Southwest Recreation Complex, Largo Community Center or other remote location.
Weekly schedule is determined on an 'as needed' basis and can range up to 40 hours during the summer months (Mid May through August)
Dept of Children & Family regulations require verification of two (2) references on your application. Please notify them in advance that, if chosen, City of Largo will be contacting them for verification.
No vacations will be approved during the summer months
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED
Must be at least 18 years old
One year experience in child care, leisure services or related field and/or front/desk or customer services experience preferred
Some positions require a valid Florida Driver License, depending on assignment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of variety of recreation activities.
Must have leadership abilities with children
Skills in activity or program assigned
Ability to pass background screening as required by law.
