This position will serve as the chief scientific officer of the institute with the title of Associate Director for Research. As Associate Director the applicant will have responsibility for ensuring scientific rigor across all externally sponsored proposals and funded projects at the institute; serving on the institute’s leadership team; providing direction and leadership to the division chairs for the institute; preparing reports for the Director, Vice Chancellor for Research and other University officials; stewarding the research components of the institute’s strategic plan; providing scientific leadership for research initiatives within the institute; mentoring researchers; conferring with representatives of granting agencies concerning research methods and funding agency needs; and representing FPG at national, university and professional meetings and functions as needed; leadership role in one or more research or evaluation projects in the role as Principal Investigator. The successful applicant will have demonstrated extraordinary professional contributions through conducting high-quality research in an area that involves children and families. The individual will have a consistent record of obtaining external funding, administering projects, and publishing his or her work in high quality peer-reviewed journals. If the individual has expertise in professional development, technical assistance, or implementation science, then the individual is expected to have developed materials or intervention models that are used widely. The individual will have achieved national or international recognition for his or her work and will have provided advice and consultation to state and federal agencies as well as professional organizations. The Associate Director for Research may have a formal relationship with a UNC-CH academic department in an adjunct, research, or clinical faculty role. The Associate Director for Research will meet the education and experience qualifications described below, to have achieved sustained excellence in either research, evaluation or professional development/technical assistance in an area that fits with the mission of FPG, and to show a high level of competence and contribution in public and professional service.
Candidates holding a faculty appointment at their current institution will be considered for a faculty appointment.
Education and Experience:
-A history of relevant professional experience related to child development such as expertise in developmental disabilities; early care and education; physical, social, and emotional health; or racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity. -Knowledge of research principles as well as qualitative and quantitative evaluation methodologies. -Knowledge of implementation science and improvement science principles. -Experience conducting community engaged research and collaborating with a diverse range of community partners and stakeholders. -Demonstrated skill in both written and oral communication. -Demonstrated success with faculty mentorship. -Ability to serve as a chief liaison between institute leadership, scientists, and staff and partners across the University and beyond. -Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
