Summary: This position is a full-time faculty appointment for the 2019-20 academic year as the first teacher in our brand-new preschool (3s) class opening fall 2019. This role requires experience in emergent, project-based curriculum with preschool children as well as a strong foundation in child development.
The teacher will: - Share in the delight of discovery with children and use observation to drive curriculum design in an emergent curriculum model. - Be an articulate advocate for open-ended, play-based learning - Collaborate with and mentor an assistant teacher - Provide a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials to support the diversity of abilities within the classroom. - Be comfortable in the outdoors and eager to use the campus as an extension of the classroom - Support the development of respectful relationships between children - Communicate with and engage families - Practice thoughtful, respectful, and effective guidance techniques which support the development of responsibility and self-regulation - Conduct ongoing observations and assessment of children. - Develop documentation of children’s learning that invites reflection and conversation. ? Attend all faculty and community meetings. - Represent Charles Wright Academy in a positive manner with all constituencies. - Participate fully in the life of the school.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree; a master’s degree is preferred. Candidate should show evidence of successful early childhood teaching in either a public or independent school setting. The candidate must have experience in dynamic, flexible pedagogical techniques. Familiarity with Google G-Suite for education and Mac hardware/systems is preferred. A commitment to diversity and inclusion with a strong sense of cultural competency is essential. Personal qualities include the ability to inspire children, the capacity to work cooperatively with peers, and a joyful sense of humor.
