Teachers are expected to work collaboratively with other teachers in the Science Department to ensure that curricula are developmentally appropriate and work synergistically with the high school scope and sequence. The science teacher is also expected to work in collaboration with their own faculty and interact productively with colleagues outside their faculty, other professionals, staff and administrators, and parents. The biology curriculum is intended to cover the basics of biology, integrate its fundamental principle of evolution and expose students to the skills necessary to seek to answer questions, reason scientifically, and appreciate the natural world.
Maintaining up-to-date teaching techniques to provide students with a quality educational experience in a high school science class.
This includes the instruction and continuous refinement of introductory, advanced, and elective biology courses that focus on inquiry-based experiences, multiple levels of material engagement and the use of scientific literature, tools, and technology.
Science teachers report to their respective Principals and to the Science Department Chair.
The Science Department is responsible for the education of students in grades 3 - 12. Teachers are expected to meet with the department and work collaboratively on pedagogy and curriculum.
The work year is 179 days (or as stipulated in the Faculty Association contract) and the workweek is 40 hours for full-time teachers.
The anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/2019.

Education, Experience or Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in a field of science or related required.
Biology degree and/or advanced degree in a field of science or related field preferred.
At least three years of experience teaching in biology required, preferably at the high school level.
Experience in developing curriculum strongly preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Ability to move in and around the classroom/building to interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community.
Ability to move class-related equipment/tools, as appropriate, around school property.
When appropriate, the ability to escort children from one classroom to another, in and out of the building during arrival and dismissal, and in an emergency situation.
Ability to demonstrate lessons, when appropriate.
