Assists the Lead Teacher in classroom management and curriculum planning as designated. Develops relationships with up to 16 children in the classroom, and to a lesser extent, with all children in the school. Interfaces with Wellesley College Faculty, Student Teachers, and Parents. Assists in the implementation of student research at the Child Study Center and at the Science Center. Is responsible for management of the classroom in the absence of Lead Teacher. Assists the Lead Teacher in supervision of Student Teachers and classroom volunteers. Assists Lead Teacher in room arrangement and environment design. Participates in evaluation of classroom activities and children’s behavior. Attends designated team, staff, planning, clinical consultant, parent education, and other ad hoc meetings, as well as workshops and seminars. Maintains journal of teaching and learning experience. Participates in parent conferences. Assists in writing children’s conference and progress reports. Participates in annual set-up of classroom and inventory at close of school year. Engages in various professional activities and readings in Child Psychology & Early Childhood Education. Schedule: 29 hours per week, 9 month position
Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC) Preschool Teacher Certification. We will accept applications from candidates who meet MA state licensing requirements for a Teacher (3 credits in a DEEC-approved course in child development and 9 months experience). A high school diploma is required; a Bachelors degree is preferred. Knowledge of child development and early childhood education. Fluency in English language. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Physical capacity to care for young children. Must be able to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
